LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy in Mississauga & Online
Affirming support for sexual orientation, gender and identity, in Mississauga or online.

Questions about identity can emerge at any stage of life. You may be exploring your sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships, cultural identity, personal values, or how different parts of your identity fit together.
For some people, these questions may be accompanied by uncertainty, fear, family pressure, relationship difficulties, or concerns about acceptance. Serenity offers LGBTQ+ affirming therapy with sessions led by Ahmad Shihab, MA, RP (CRPO #11572), the clinic’s founder and director — see his full background and registration details. Sessions are available in person in Mississauga or online anywhere in Ontario.

This service is for people who want room to reflect on identity, relationships, values or the pressures around them in their own words. You do not need to have a label, a fixed answer, or a particular decision in mind before starting. Some people come with a clear question; others simply want a private space to sort through what has been difficult to name.
Your experiences and circumstances set the agenda. If anxiety, low mood, stress or a major change is also part of what you are carrying, it can be useful to discuss that context together; individual therapy and anxiety therapy are available for broader support as well.

Sessions are collaborative and move at a pace that feels manageable to you. The conversation begins with what brought you in, what feels important now, and what you would like more space to understand. You can decide what to share, what language feels right, and which concerns deserve attention first.
Therapy will not try to change your sexual orientation or gender identity, and you will not be pressured toward an outcome. The focus can include understanding patterns, reflecting on values, and considering practical ways to respond to situations in your life. When useful, CBT and mindfulness-based strategies can support coping with stress or difficult thoughts while keeping the work grounded in your own goals.
Confidentiality is part of creating a dependable space for this conversation. Ahmad will explain its limits at the outset so you know how information is handled and can ask questions before moving forward.
What to Expect in Your First Session
The first step is a free 30-minute consultation. It is an opportunity to ask practical questions, describe what has led you to consider therapy, and decide whether the fit feels right before booking a full session.
In a first session, the focus is on what brought you in and what you hope might change or become clearer. There is no expectation to explain every part of your story at once. You decide what to share and when, and the conversation can proceed at a client-led pace.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be sure of my identity before starting therapy?
No. You can begin while you are questioning, reflecting, or trying to make sense of different parts of your experience. Therapy does not require you to arrive at a label or a predetermined outcome; the conversation can begin with whatever feels most present for you.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Psychotherapy is confidential, with important limits that will be explained clearly at the beginning of the work. You can ask questions about privacy, records and the situations in which confidentiality may have limits before deciding what you want to discuss.
Can I do sessions online?
Yes. Sessions are available online for clients anywhere in Ontario, as well as in person in Mississauga. The online therapy page explains the virtual format and what you may want to consider when choosing a private place for a session.
