Life Transitions Counselling in Mississauga & Online
Support through change and uncertainty, in Mississauga or online across Ontario.

Major life changes can create uncertainty even when the change is positive. Starting or leaving a job, becoming a parent, getting married, separating, moving, immigrating, graduating, changing careers, losing someone important, or entering a new stage of adulthood can all affect your sense of identity and stability.
Life transitions counselling is available with sessions led by Ahmad Shihab, MA, RP (CRPO #11572), the clinic’s founder and director — see his full background and registration details. Sessions are available in person in Mississauga or online anywhere in Ontario.

Who Life Transitions Counselling Can Help

Therapy can help you process the emotions associated with change and clarify what you want your next chapter to look like.

This counselling may be useful when a change has left you uncertain, stretched between competing responsibilities, or disconnected from your usual sense of direction. It is also a place to bring a transition that is welcome but still demanding; mixed feelings do not mean you made the wrong choice.
There is no need to wait until a situation becomes a crisis. You can start with one decision, one loss, or a general sense that life is shifting faster than you can process. Where relationship changes are central, couples therapy or family therapy may also be relevant options to discuss.
Common Concerns We Explore
- Adjusting to a new role or identity
- Uncertainty about the future
- Career decisions
- Relationship changes

- Finding purpose and direction
- Building confidence during periods of uncertainty
Our Approach to Life Transitions Counselling

Therapy can provide a space to slow down, understand what you’re experiencing, and make intentional decisions rather than simply reacting to circumstances.

Sessions are collaborative and client-led. Early conversations can focus on the change itself, the parts of it that feel most difficult, and the personal, family, cultural or practical context around it. You decide what to share and when; the aim is not to rush you toward a decision, but to make space for thoughtful reflection.
The work may include noticing patterns in thoughts, emotions and behaviour, clarifying values, and identifying small next steps that fit your situation. CBT and mindfulness-based strategies can be used when they are helpful for stress, worry or feeling overwhelmed. The pace and focus are revisited together as your circumstances change.
Confidentiality is part of a dependable therapeutic relationship. Ahmad will explain its limits at the outset so you know how information is handled and can ask questions before proceeding.
What to Expect in Your First Session
The first step is a free 30-minute consultation. It gives you a chance to share a little about the transition you are facing, ask practical questions, and decide whether you would like to book a first full session.
In a first session, the focus is on what brought you in and what you hope will change, become clearer or feel more manageable. You do not need to have a plan already. You decide what to share and when, and the conversation can move at a pace that feels workable for you.
It can also be a place to notice what has already helped you cope and what support is available around you. Those details can guide the next conversation without requiring you to solve everything at once.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be in crisis to start counselling?
No. Counselling can be a place to pause during an expected change, an uncertain period or a difficult decision, not only when things feel urgent. You can begin with the part of the transition that is taking the most energy or attention right now.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. It depends on what you would like to explore, the change you are navigating and what feels useful over time. The pace, focus and whether to continue are discussed together rather than promised in advance.
Can I do sessions online?
Yes. Sessions are available online for clients anywhere in Ontario, as well as in person in Mississauga. Visit online therapy in Ontario for more about the virtual format and choosing a private place for a session.
